The witch needs something to mix their concoctions in and that object is the cauldron. They are perfect for items or herbs that will be set alight during a ritual, brewing potions or burning incense.

When you trace the history of the cauldron in witchcraft back to its origins you arrive at the Welsh goddess Cerridwen. Cerridwen was the goddess of the moon, prophecy, magic, death, and rebirth and the cauldron was her sacred icon.

The Celt's associated cauldrons with fertility and abundance. In Celtic mythology, Dagda (god of fertility) possessed a magic cauldron called Undry that could feed the whole earth.
